IDA HAMM

Ida Hamm Taumarunui

and Ida comes from a long line of Maori Raranga Weavers and is known for her beautiful Ketes. So popular are these artworks that a new batch is often sold the same day as they naive in the Gallery.

Ida's mother was a master weaver who in turn taught Ida her name was Rivia Flo Gribb. Ida's primary aim with this mode of expression is to make this weaving art form a Taonga as accessible as possible in the hope that others see the beauty of these forms and younger generations become inspired to feel the flax between their hands as generations before them have creating new expressions of this Artform then in turn pass it on to the next generation as both Art and an as a means of connecting with ancestral and cultural identity.

As expressed in Ida's words via this proverb:'Maori Whakatauki - ahakoa he iti he pounamu'Translation Although it is small it is a treasure
